On Sun., Mar. 9 - Wed., Mar. 12 we conducted revival services at the Gateway Baptist Church in Ellisville, MS where Bro. J. Martin is the pastor. The Lord is using Pastor Martin in a wonderful way.
During the revival at the Gateway Baptist Church, Bro. Martin and I went soul winning and did follow up daily. It was a tremendous blessing to be with Bro. Martin, his family, and church. Bro Martin was one of my teenagers years ago when I was a youth pastor at Central Baptist Church in Hattiesburg, MS. I am certainly proud of him. During the revival there were 31 people who visited the church, 45 people were saved, and three people were baptized and many life changing decisions that were made. Several pastors also visited bringing their members. The nightly attendance was great with a record high of 86 on Monday and 48 on Wednesday. This was outstanding because when Bro. Martin took the church on Nov. 1, 2007 there were only eight people that voted him in as pastor. The church is presently praying for a van so they can pick up more people for church.
On Sun., morning Mar. 16 we were at the Victory Baptist Church in Bowling Green, KY where Bro. R.B. Adamson is the pastor. The family sang several songs and I preached. During the invitation there were five adults who walked the aisle and received the Lord as their Saviour. Many people stood around after the service rejoicing over the decisions that were made. Praise the Lord!
On Mon., Mar. 17 – Thurs., Mar. 20 our family attended the Pastor’s School at the First Baptist Church in Hammond, IN where Dr. Jack Schaap is the pastor. We set up book tables and were able to attend a few of the many classes that were offered. Mrs. Wells and I attended a class on marriage together and were greatly blessed.
On Fri., Mar. 21 we left Hammond to drive 1,000 miles to Alvarado, TX. On the way, I became sick. We arrived at the Fundamental Baptist Church in Alvarado, TX where Dr. Raymond Smith is the pastor on Saturday afternoon.
On Sun., Mar. 23 – Wed., Mar. 26 we conducted revival services at the church. That week I developed walking pneumonia. The doctor said, The next step would be to put me in the hospital. A couple of neat things happened this week that were major blessings to us. I witnessed to the doctor and he gave us $50.00 off our bill, then the church paid for the rest of the bill. Then the pastor and I went next door to get the prescriptions filled. While in the pharmacy I was giving out Gospel tracts and invited people to church. The pharmacist stepped out from behind the counter thanked us for coming, handed me the medicine that was worth over $150.00 and said, “No charge.” Praise the Lord!
For three days of the four-day revival I was very sick. Bro. Smith allowed me to rest during the day so I could have enough strength to preach at night. One night I was only able to preach about twenty minutes and I had to give the invitation. On Wednesday night I asked Jonathan to preach with me to add to the service, as always, he did a tremendous job. On Wednesday night after I preached a person approached me and gave me an envelope. I thanked him, put it in my pocket and later I found out that it contained money that was greatly needed. Wow, what a blessing! The money was enough to sustain the family for the next 14 days that I would be gone to the Philippines. During the week there were seven people saved. One married lady that I led to the Lord on Monday was from Hungary.
On Thurs., Mar. 27 we drove to Fort Worth, TX where I flew to the Bible Baptist Church in Cebu, Philippines to preach the World Baptist Youth Congress for the 4th year in a row.
On Sun., Mar. 30 I preached at the Bible Baptist Church with over 8,000 in attendance. During the invitation on Sunday morning in the auditorium 16 people walked the aisles to be saved and 11 were baptized. On Mon. – Thurs. I preached twice a day at the youth congress. There were 1,142 young people who were registered delegates ages 11 to 25. There were youth groups from many countries including Cambodia, Vietnam, Thailand, China. Each night the crowds swelled to over 2,000 in attendance. There were a total of 42 saved in the congress. Hundreds of decisions were made as the altars filled in each service. On Thursday night 92 young people surrendered to be missionaries.
On Sun., April 6 I preached in Kent Jesalva’s church. Several were saved. On Sun. afternoon I preached at a Marine Training School and 203 young men and women stood to receive Christ as their Saviour. Then on Sun. night I preached the 27th Commencement High School Graduation of Bob Hughes’ Academy. During the invitation four visiting relatives were saved. Praise the Lord!
